Deaf Even of CSD of Baseball
It was a wonderful experience through the Deaf Event activity of CSD of Baseball 2008. I had a lot of fun. From this, I gained two experiences. One is God’s blessing. Second, I need to practice ASL more. At the beginning, I worried about how to finish the assignment when the deadline was around. I did not know where /when the events took place. I also worried about that I did not have any car and how could I get there. Besides, I was a beginner and how could I communicate with Deaf students. All the things jumped into my mind. I attempted to cool me down and tried to find any solution. I told myself “God help those help themselves. Do not give up! Try to focus on problem. Keep the positive way.” On Tuesday, May 6, that day was first test of ASL. Before going to the class, I prayed to the Lord, “Lord, I hope that I can get any information about Deaf Event so that I can finish the assignment. Please help me.” Next, when we entered into the class, instructor took out the piles of flyers putting on the table were about Deaf activity. I was quickly grabbed few of them and then, I found one of event was “CSD of Baseball Event” at 6:00o’clock tonight. I was so excited to get it. After finished the test, I luckily found a classmate who was able to go with me lived in San Jose. I thought, “Lord, thank you so much! You are faithful Lord! I got the information and riding both. Yeah” Both of them had a great time on the car together. We prayed together because we were too nervous, as arriving there. We saw two teams which were playing the baseball. They definitely communicated with each other by signs. I took a courage walking toward a boy with slime. “Hi!” with right palm against the right up head. So did him. I started to communicate with him, “My name is Y-U-F-E-N, C-H-E-N, and nice to meet you! What your name?” by sign. He told me, “My name is A-R-O-N-A” and nice to meet you!” with his smile. Due to excitement, I forgot any ASL and forgot how to sign any word. I was too nervous so that I write down on the paper to him. He smiled as feedback to me. All of sudden, his Coach asked him to come back team. It seemed that he Coach wanted him to focus on the team not to talk outside people through their “communication’ I guess. Luckily, Arona allowed me to take picture with him. Therefore, after picture, I began to communicate with another Deaf teenager student who did not want to take any picture was willing to communicate with me in order to help me practice ASL. So, he helped me practice a while. It was great. When I sign the wrong side, he often smiled to me as feedback. The facial expression was really important to convey the message. This was another unexpected. Finally, the game finished and CSD lost but I observed that game did not make them more frustration from their facial expression. Perhaps, “Next time will be great I guess” when they signed each other.
From the experience, it really broadens my horizon and I still wanted to thank God’s blessing and I think I will practice more in ASL in order to be ready for next Deaf Event.
By the way, how could I get home? I thanked God again because He provided another brother in Church, Eon who helped me out to come home. Thank Jesus! It was an excellent experience and blessing.
“4Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desire of your heart 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.” (Psalm 36:4-5)
